Monash Engineering and IT number one in Australia16 December 2004 Monash University's Engineering and Information Technology faculties have been ranked number one in Australia and number 18 in the world in the latest World University rankings in the Times Higher Education Supplement. The ranking is based on a survey of 1300 academics around the world. Monash was one of nine Australian universities to rank in the world's top 100 IT and engineering faculties. Monash University Dean of Engineering Professor Tam Sridhar said he was delighted with the ranking. "It is wonderful that the work of all my colleagues is being recognised around the world," he said. "It is particularly rewarding to note that the rankings are determined by peer review." Monash University's Faculty of Science also ranked in the top 100 science faculties around the world, coming in at number 41 and third in Australia behind the Australian National University and Melbourne University. Six Australian universities ranked in the top 100 science faculties. The latest rankings follow the overall World University Rankings published in The Times Higher Education Supplement in November in which Monash ranked 33rd.
