Launch of new research, teaching and clinical facility3 December 2004 The redeveloped Centre for Developmental Disability Health Victoria which aims to better treat people with intellectual and related developmental disabilities has been launched. The centre, which has been operating in Melbourne since 1992, has expanded its Oakleigh premises to include a new research, teaching and clinical facility, enabling better integration of its clinical, education and research activities. The Minister for Community Services Ms Sherryl Garbutt and Monash University's Dean of Medicine Professor Edward Byrne launched the new facility which will support medical practitioners in the care of people with developmental disabilities. "The clinical services provided by the centre create the foundations and enhance the credibility of its teaching and research activities as it continues its mission to improve the health outcomes of people with intellectual and related developmental disabilities with particular emphasis on generic health services," Professor Byrne said "This new facility will, in addition, facilitate teaching opportunities for medical students and support general practitioner and psychiatry registrars on rotation with the centre."
