East Timor's champion speaks

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation for the Democratic Republic of East Timor, Dr Jose Ramos Horta, will deliver a public lecture in Melbourne tomorrow.

East Timor's most outspoken champion will speak at an annual lecture hosted by Monash University's Castan Centre for Human Rights Law and law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques.

Titled: 'East Timor: A United Nations Success Story in Nation Building?' - the talk will assess East Timor's progress and consider the future of the nation.

Dr Horta has been the leading international spokesman for East Timor's cause since 1975. His work was recognised when he was named the Nobel Peace Prize co-laureate in 1996.
