Why we should be paying more attention to Pakistan
12 August 2004
Pakistan is now regarded as a "frontline" state in the war on terrorism - not just regional security, but global security depends on the security of this state, so what threatens its position?
Parliamentarian and Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court of Pakistan The Hon. Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan will outline threats facing the security of Pakistan, and why the rest of the world should take an interest, in a talk in Melbourne tomorrow.
Mr Ahsan will speak at the Asia Foreign Policy Update Luncheon organised by the Monash Asia Institute and the Asia Society AustralAsia Centre.
The talk will be followed by the official launch of a new book edited by Monash University security experts Professor Marika Vicziany, Dr David Wright-Neville and Dr Peter Lentini.
The book Regional Security in the Asia Pacific, 9/11 and After assesses the impact of the September 11 attacks against the US on the Asia Pacific region.
