The musical works of Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn and Witold Lutoslawski will be performed in a classical music concert at Monash University's Clayton campus on 9 September.
The concert will showcase the talents of some of the School of Music -- Conservatorium's top students, joined by staff from the school including Wilma Smith (Violin) - concert master at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra; and Paul McMillan (Viola) and Josephine Vains (Cello) - both with Orchestra Victoria.
The program comprises an octet by Mendelssohn -- one of his most famous works; Mozart's Quintet for Piano and Winds K452; Lutoslawski's Variations on a Theme by Paganini for two pianos; and A Study in Style -- A Theatrical Piano Work for Six Hands by Melissa Perrin.
The concert's artistic director Mr Fintan Murphy, a Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of Strings at Monash's School of Music-Conservatorium, said the concert would be a treat for classical music lovers of all ages.
"The concert is a great opportunity for some of Monash's top music students to showcase their abilities, while working alongside high profile professional musicians," Mr Murphy said. "The specially selected program offers classic wonderful works that are particularly audience-friendly."
The concert will be held at 8pm on September 9 at the Music Auditorium (Building 67/68) at Monash University's Clayton campus. For bookings, telephone 9905 1111.
