Monash University's 2006 Twilight Winter Musique Sessions are on this month at the university's Clayton campus. The concerts feature Monash School of Music - Conservatorium students showcasing their musical talents. The music ranges from avant-garde to traditional. This year, for the first time, students will also be playing other students' compositions.

Tuesday, 23 May - 'Seven-tone orchestra' Monash Gamelan Concert directed by Dr Made Hood. The Monash School of Music has a long history of teaching the Indonesian performing arts. The concert will feature the Gamelan Genta Semara from the Island of Bali. This seven-tone orchestra of bronze gongs and metallophones, modelled after an ancient palm-leaf manuscript, is the only one of its kind. The concert will feature traditional works performed by students from Gamelan Performance Studies and members of the Monash Community Gamelan -- Genta Semara.
Thursday, 25 May - 'Inside the Machine'. Features computer-based music that centres on the exploration of sound. Performed by Monash's Sonic Art Group. The group, formed in 2001, comprises composition students from the School of Music -- Conservatorium and composition lecturer Peter McIlwain.
Wednesday, 31 May - 'In Fine Voice'. Performed by the Monash Voice Ensemble, classical voice students who will present a chamber repertoire for solo voices. Features music composed by Purcell, Mozart, Holst and Margaret Sutherland. Time: 7.30pm. Location: Armadale Uniting Church, Kooyong Road, Armadale (Melway 59 A7.)
Thursday, 1 June - 'Strings of Life'. Performance by the Monash String Ensemble.
