Two teams of internationally respected Monash Law graduates will debate this topical and controversial legal issue at the annual Monash Great Law Week Debate on Tuesday 23 May.
World Vision Australia Chief Executive Officer and social justice activist Mr Tim Costello AO, together with human rights advocate and barrister Mr Julian Burnside QC and former World debating champion Ms Meg O'Sullivan will argue that we do have more to fear from the State than from terrorists.
But proving this point won't be easy against the quick wit of ABC radio personality Mr Jon Faine; the insight of the Co-Convenor of Monash's Global Terrorism Research Unit, Dr David Wright-Neville; and the oral skills of former world debating champion Ms Kylie Lane.
Monash Law graduate Mr Will Fowles - who recently became the youngest ever member of the Melbourne Cricket Club Committee - will act as moderator.
