Monash's 'Music at Lunchtime' concerts - May

Monash University's School of Music -- Conservatorium's lunchtime concert series continues each week on Thursdays at the university's Clayton campus.

Highlights for May include an all Mozart concert recital on 4 May to commemorate the 250 th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and a concert by Australian and international prize-winning violinist Charles Castleman on 18 May.

May program

4 May -- "Happy 250 th Birthday Mozart" -- concert to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Celebrate with the Monash School of Music -- Conservatorium the life, times and birthday with an all Mozart recital. Features acclaimed Australian pianist Gil Sullivan performing sonata No.10 in C, K330, Fantasie and Sonata in C Minor, K475/457.

11 May -- "Stringendo" -- concert will feature performances by the Monash Sinfonia, directed by Fintan Murphy and Elizabeth Sellars.

The Monash Sinfonia is an auditioned string orchestra comprising students from the Monash School of Music -- Conservatorium. Students are challenged to develop a strong knowledge of period performance and contemporary repertoires. Developing independence of musical thought in students is a hallmark of the ensemble.

18 May -- "G String Sounds and the Sweetest of E's" -- concert by international prize-winning violinist Charles Castlemain who will perform J.S. Bach's Preludio Partita #3 in E Major, BWV 1006 and Sonata #3 in C Major, BWV 1005, and Eugene Ysaye's Sonata #4 in E Minor.

Charles has been a soloist with orchestras in Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Moscow, Mexico City, New York, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Seoul and Shanghai.

25 May -- "A Voice in the Wind" -- concert performed by Monash University's Vive Voce Choral Ensemble, led by Musical Director Andrew Wailes and the Monash Wind Symphony, led by Musical Director David Griffiths.

Vive Voce is the premier choral ensemble of Monash's School of Music -- Conservatorium, and comprises some 60 students who are primarily enrolled in the Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Performing Arts degree courses at Monash.

When: Weekly on Thursdays during semester, from 1.10pm to 1.50pm.

Where: The Music Auditorium, Building 68, Monash University, Wellington Road, Clayton.
