Monash University's School of Music -- Conservatorium's annual lunchtime concert series will feature a concert by three leading tenor saxophonists backed by jazz musician and multi-ARIA award winner Paul Grabowsky during the month of April.
The weekly concerts will be held on Thursdays (except 20 April) at the university's Clayton campus.
April program
6 April -- "Best of their Class" -- featuring performances by Monash School of Music -- Conservatorium students across all years who achieved the highest marks for their recital exams at the end of 2005. Expect the best of jazz and classical piano, woodwind, opera and strings from these extremely talented musicians. Features: Hue Blanes (jazz piano), Sam Curkpatrick (clarinet), Kristian Gregory (baritone), Philip Healy (violin) and Tao Wang (piano).
13 April - "TTT Tenor" -- featuring performances by three leading Australian tenor saxophonists - Andy Sugg, Jamie Oehlers and Julien Wilson - each of whom teach in Monash's Jazz and Contemporary music program. A rhythm section including multi-ARIA award winner Paul Grabowsky on piano and Andre Gander on drums will support the ensemble. The concert will feature a presentation of original Australian compositions.
20 April - no concert (mid semester break)
27 April -- "Future funk" - performed by Monash University School of Music -- Conservatorium's Jazz ensembles, led by Musical Director Robert Burke. The Monash University Jazz Department has grown from 20 undergraduate students to more than 100 in just five years. The concert will feature a combination of jazz standards and contemporary pieces performed by nine small ensembles and one big band.
