A former senior Victorian public servant, Ms Karen Haywood, has started work as Monash University's new Divisional Director of Human Resources.
Ms Haywood began her working career as a nurse, moving on to become a secondary school humanities teacher. She has held positions at the Australian Electoral Commission, the Department of Justice and the National Heart Foundation.
Her most recent role was as Director of Human Resources in Victoria 's Department of Human Services.
Ms Haywood completed her undergraduate arts degree at Monash in the early '80s and said she had fond memories of the university.
"I feel that I was well equipped by Monash to take a very broad approach to my career and now it's nice to be coming back to Monash, to be able to give something back to the university."
Ms Haywood said she was looking forward to the challenges that working at Monash would offer.
"I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to bring my strengths in administration to such a diverse teaching and learning environment," she said.
"I intend to spend some time learning in more detail what's happening in the higher education sector and to understand what type of workplace culture will best help the university to meet its vision."
