The challenges and misconceptions of 'borderless' education will be examined in a four-day conference at Monash University Malaysia from February 13 to 16.
The conference, International Education, A Matter of Heart, brings together academics, researchers and administrators to examine worldwide issues in the tertiary education sector.
From Bhutan to Malawi, South Africa to Vietnam, educators are increasingly trying to compete in a global education market to produce the best outcomes for students.
Conference co-chair Dr Kaya Prpic, from Monash University, said the conference would bring together a diversity of institutions at the 'front line' of international education to discuss the impact of international education on nations, institutions, disciplines, communities, cultures and individuals.
"There are many cultural differences in terms of perceptions and experiences of, and challenges in, international higher education across the world," Dr Prpic said.
"This conference aims to bring together people from around the world, and from across all layers of the tertiary sector to discuss the issues relevant across universities and those issues that are unique to particular parts of the world. It's not about the west telling the east how to deliver education - but about how we can all learn from each other to deliver the best education."
Papers to be delivered include:
The impact of the brain drain: Phenomenon on higher education in poor countries, the case of Malawi. Professor Lewis Dzimbiri, University of Botswana
What do we really know about the outcomes of Australian International higher education? A critical review and prospectus for future research. Associate Professor Denise Cuthbert, Dr Wendy Smith and Ms Janice Boey, Monash University.
