Slovenian-born artist Gregor Kregar has created a funky and contemporary installation featuring ceramic piggy bank pigs dressed in colourful jackets during his stay at Monash University's Faculty of Art and Design.
Mr Kregar has been visiting the university as part of Art and Design's Artist-in-Residence program. His time in Australia was also shared with Shepparton Art Gallery and Craft Victoria.
During his three-week stay Mr Kregar worked on a sculpture called 'The PyggBank Project' which includes 140 pink pigs.
The installation, which is on show at the Shepparton Art Gallery, looks at how something as seemingly trivial as piggy banks can represent something more meaningful.
"In the middle ages people made jars to store their money out of a type of clay called pygg clay. This is how the term 'piggy bank' came into being," he said.
Mr Kregar is leaving Monash on Wednesday 7 December and will head to Hobart to take part in an exhibition called Criterion. |
