Refugees will give first-hand accounts of their experiences seeking asylum in Australia at a public conference to be held at Monash University this weekend.
Refugee supporters, academics, public servants and legal and medical professionals will also discuss how Australia's refugee policy has affected them individually, and Australia as a nation.
Speakers will include: refugees; Director of the Monash Centre for Population and Urban Research, Professor Bob Birrell; refugee advocate and lawyer Mr Julian Burnside QC; Monash Law Professor Bernadette McSherry; National Editor of The Age newspaper Mr Michael Gordon and Legal Coordinator of Melbourne's Asylum Resource Centre Mr Kon Karapanagiotidis.
