The Victorian College of Pharmacy last week introduced a fun element to its end-of-year activities with a sophisticated cocktail party after the final exams. The elegant event, called Swish 05, was held at the college's Cossar Hall in Parkville on Friday, 11 November.
College Dean, Professor Colin Chapman, said the party was for all of this year's 400 final year students. "That includes those students from our undergraduate courses in pharmacy, formulation science and medicinal chemistry, as well as our postgraduate courses, including PhD studies, and the Monash Pre-registration program," Professor Chapman said.
Many students brought their partners and families to thank them for their support throughout their years of study.
"Our students have worked hard throughout their years of undergraduate studies and we are very proud of their achievements," Professor Chapman said. "They have shown great passion and energy in their studies and their student activities, including their establishment of Remedy -- the student group that supports the development of pharmacy services in developing countries.
"We know that they will be a great asset to various sectors of the workforce and we wanted to send them off with a bang with this event."
Cossar Hall was transformed, with mood lighting, couches and a DJ to provide music as students danced into the evening. The compere for the evening was Mr Michael Nunan, final year pharmacy student and Victorian finalist in the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia's Pharmacy Student of the Year competition.
Swish 05 was sponsored by Melbourne pharmacy group, Quality Pharmacy Services, which provided sponsorship and prizes. Mr Charles Khallouf, director of Quality Pharmacy Services, said his company was delighted to be involved and he wished all graduates the best for the future.
"This next generation of graduates is the future of the profession. We wanted this night to be a special event at which they could celebrate their achievements but also relax and have some fun at the end of their final exams," he said.
Professor Chapman said it was always hard to say goodbye to students. "But their futures are bright and we know many Australian and international pharmacies, research institutes and companies will welcome them and gain greatly from their passion and commitment," he said.
