Victoria's paramedics will take a step forward in 'real world' training thanks to a new trauma simulation complex being opened at Monash University tomorrow, Friday 4 November.
The RACV Outdoor Trauma Simulation Complex features a high-tech mannequin that can mimic the physical signs of distress people may experience during a road accident.
The mannequin's features include carotid, radial and brachial pulses, replaceable skin and veins, the ability to set systolic and diastolic blood pressures and the ability to respond to electrical and oxygen therapy.
The complex will allow student paramedics to experience how a road trauma might progress, providing skills in dealing with multiple issues.
