Questions such as how to measure skills shortages, where are the good job prospects and what is happening to migration and participation in education and work will be examined at a conference in Melbourne tomorrow.
The conference, 'Australian education and training: Responding to economic trends and social needs', is coordinated by the Centre for the Economics of Education and Training (CEET) - a joint venture between Monash University's faculties of Education and Business and Economics and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
Speakers and topics include:
- 'International developments and Australian employment: Key findings', by ACER research director and CEET director Dr Phil McKenzie and CEET executive director Associate Professor Gerald Burke
- 'Good job prospects' and 'Skill shortages'- both of these topics to be presented by Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, Economic and Labour Market Analysis Branch t eam leader Mr Denis Hart
- 'Skilled migration', by CEET senior research fellow Dr Chandra Shah
- 'Youth and jobs: How young people are faring', by CEET senior research fellow Mr Mike Long
- 'New ways to support learning in vocational education and training', by Department of Education, Science and Training deputy secretary Mr Jim Davidson
The Centre for the Economics of Education and Training undertakes research and research training and provides information on the economics and finance of education and training.
