Mozart's 'Requiem' and Don Banks' 'Nexus' will be performed for the final concert in Monash University's School of Music -- Conservatorium 'Making Music' series on Saturday, 8 October, at the Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash's Clayton campus.
The school's premiere musicians, including choral ensemble Viva Voce, the Monash Chamber Orchestra and Monash Jazz students, will perform the pieces.
'Nexus', an exciting fusion piece for jazz quintet by Australian composer Don Banks will be conducted by the highly-regarded Jeffrey Crellin and Mozart's final piece, the unfinished, impassioned 'Requiem' will be conducted by Andrew Wailes.
Mr Wailes, of the School of Music -- Conservatorium, is considered one of Australia's leading conductors specializing in choral repertoire, and conducts both Viva Voce and the Australian Catholic University's St Patrick's Campus Choir who will be uniting to perform 'Requiem'.
This will be the second time the choirs have combined after performing Mozart's Requiem at St Patrick's Cathedral with the Australian National Catholic University in August.
Viva Voce, a mixed voice classical choir comprises 60 Monash students who are mostly enrolled in Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Performing Arts degree courses.
The Making Music series was launched in April 2005 and has included 14 concerts throughout the year including the School of Music's 40th anniversary gala at BMW Edge in May.
It gives audiences an opportunity to witness some of the best musicians from abroad and locally perform alongside Monash students.
The series aims to reflect the School of Music -- Conservatorium's commitment towards encouraging diversity and integration of traditional, multi-cultural and contemporary styles of music performance.
