Monash's Music at Lunchtime - a feast for your ears

Monash University's School of Music - Conservatorium is hosting a series of lunchtime concerts at the university's Clayton campus throughout September and October. The concerts will feature some of Australia's top musicians and vocalists as well as the school's own students.

The program is:

1 September - "All Jazzed Up". Monash Jazz and Popular Music Ensemble and performances by students from the School of Music-Conservatorium

8 September - "Global Consciousness" - featuring the traditional Indonesian instrument - the gamelan played by Dr Made Mantle Hood. Additional performances by the Monash World Music Ensemble and students from the School of Music-Conservatorium.

15 September - "The Bold, the Brass and the Beautiful". An entertaining trumpet concert that will blow your chops off and leave your tongue fluttering. Featuring Mark Skillington on trumpet, Jodie Lockyer on piano and the Monash School of Music-Conservatorium Brass Music Ensemble.

22 September - "Eavesdropping". Listen to the contemporary sounds of a classical music ensemble. Performances by composer Rae Howell (piano, vibraphone), Monash Master of Performance graduate Karen Heath (clarinet), Luke Richardson (double bass) and Hayley Mueller-Shepard (harp).

6 October - "The Vibrations of Perfect Order" - Explore the mysteries of one of the most bizarre and exuberant collections of violin music ever assembled, The Rosary Sonatas - composed by Heinrich Biber in the 1670s. Features Libby Wallfisch (baroque violin), Kinda Kent (harpsichord), Rosanne Hunt (baroque cello).

13 October - "Blow Your Own Way". Alexander Comitas's 'A Night on Culbin Sands', Opus 3 with Alexander Aroutounian's 'Trumpet Concerto', performed by the Monash School of Music-Conservatorium Wind Symphony.

20 October - Monash Australian Composers Series XII, featuring Composer of Honour - Sarah De Jong. Ms De Jong's composition will be performed by classical vocal quartet 'Glisten' - Linda Thompson (soprano), Roxanne Hislop (mezzo soprano), Adrian McEniery (tenor), Lucas De Jong (baritone), and accompanied by David McNicol (piano).
