Forty years of Music at Monash celebration

Monash University's School of Music - Conservatorium is holding a party to celebrate its 40 th anniversary.

40th Birthday Party at the Edge will be held at BMW Edge in Federation Square on Saturday 3 September.

As part of the celebration there will be a concert of outstanding student ensembles. The program will include performances by the Monash Chamber Orchestra, string chamber orchestra -- Monash 'Sinfonia', the Monash Piano Ensemble, the World of Music Ensemble, the Monash Opera Ensemble, Jazz and Popular Music Ensembles, the Vive Voce choir, and contemporary Sonic Art ensemble.

The school was founded in 1965 and has gone on to become one of the most innovative and dynamic music schools in Australia , well known for its research and its teaching of ethnomusicology and world music traditions.

It is also recognised globally for its strength in composition and for its growing presence in the jazz and popular music communities.

The concert is a celebration of the contribution made by the school over the years, recognising both its extensive performance history as well as its outstanding contribution to musical scholarship.
