Victoria's best Year 12 students have been presented with a scholarship to study at Monash University.
The presentation was made by University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Richard Larkins at a presentation ceremony in Melbourne, just hours after students today learnt their VCE scores.
Monash University Scholarships for Excellence, valued at up to $14,000 annually, were offered to each Victorian student who this year received a perfect ENTER of 99.95.
The scholarships covers the cost of a Commonwealth Supported Place (between $4,000 and $8,000 a year), plus a $6,000 allowance for each year of study.
Professor Larkins congratulated the successful students and presented them with framed certificates.
"A university degree opens new doors to opportunity and Monash University provides an education with a truly international perspective that encourages students to engage with the world," Professor Larkins said.
"By deciding to study at Monash University, students are choosing a career orientated-university degree that allows them to begin working towards their careers from day one. Monash offers the choices of double degrees and the flexibility to change courses should they need to."
Monash University, Australia's largest university, will offer more than 1,000 new coursework scholarships and bursaries worth more than $8 million in 2008 for academic excellence and equity.
More than half, or about 500, will be offered to indigenous students, students from rural and isolated areas and to students from disadvantaged backgrounds across Victoria.
In 2008 Monash University will administer a total of more than 4,450 new and ongoing scholarships and awards for students, valued at $42 million. Of that about $10 million is administered for coursework awards and $32 million for 1,950 post graduate research awards.
Monash University will next year celebrate fifty years since it was created by a Victorian Act of Parliament. It was recently ranked as being among the top fifty universities in the world by The Times Higher Educational Supplement.
Monash is Australia's most international research-intensive University, with 55,000 students, 6,000 staff and eight campuses in Australia, Malaysia and South Africa. It is home to 100 research centres and has partnerships with 110 universities around the world.
