The Arts in ACTION festival offers a diverse program with over 50 discussions, lectures, workshops, films, performances and displays to choose from.

It will showcase the diverse research within Monash University's Arts Faculty, and explore the use and relevance of the arts in our communities.

Monash University's Arts in ACTION festival will be held at the Caulfield campus, 900 Dandenong Rd, Caulfield East, from 10am to 6.30pm on Saturday 9 June. Admission: free.

Jen McVeity, another children's author at the festival will present a session about "How to Create Creative Kids".

McVeity asks, "Why do the best ideas always come to you in the shower?" and suggests ways to "harness creative energy".

She has over 20 books published and is the author of popular teen novels Dreamcatcher and Shadowseeker.

As well as this, Dr Virgina Lowe will discuss her book Stories, Pictures and Reality: Two Children Tell, which explores children's reactions to reading.

Dr Lowe's answer is to, "ply them with books, read the actual words, and never underestimate them."
