New graduate centre provides greater opportunities for research

6 March 2007

Monash University's Peninsula campus is further set to develop its health, education and business research strengths with the opening of a Postgraduate Studies Centre at the campus this week.

The new centre will be located in the campus's original building, Struan House, and will provide facilities and services for all postgraduate students located at the campus.

Monash Peninsula Academic Director, Professor Phillip Steele, said the development of the centre is part of the University's policy to strengthen graduate and research opportunities at all campuses.

"The Peninsula campus has 740 graduate and postgraduate students undertaking doctorate, masters and graduate diploma courses," Professor Steele explained. "This number is expected to increase over the next two years with the development of new teaching and research particularly in the health area."

"Research is a crucial part of the University's role and Monash is recognised internationally for its many research strengths. The Peninsula campus has developed extensive teaching and research links in the fields of early childhood and primary education as well as primary health care, sport and outdoor recreation and business on a local and national scale.

"Support for research and postgraduate study is vital in maintaining Monash's position as a leading Australian university, and services such as the Postgraduate Centre allow the campus to attract and support students looking to undertake study opportunities at these levels."

The Postgraduate Studies Centre will be launched on Wednesday 7 March at 12 noon in Struan House, Monash University Peninsula Campus, McMahons Road, Frankston.
