Multiculturalism and the challenges it faces at a national and international level will be put seriously under the spotlight when Monash University conducts a major public forum on February 3.
"Multicultural Solidarity: Global and National Issues" is being convened by Monash University's Centre for Public Philosophy.
One of the key speakers at the forum will be the head of World Vision Australia and former Monash University student the Reverend Tim Costello.
The forum is one of a series being conducted by Monash University under the title "Multiculturalism in Perspective: The Academy and the Community".
Convenor of the forums, Dr Monima Chadha, from Monash University's School of Philosophy and Bioethics, said the need to discuss a range of issues relating to multiculturalism in the Australian and international context was "now more imperative than ever".
"The 'M' word has been banished from the political lexicon. What message does this give to our diversified multicultural population? How will the rest of the world perceive Australia in the light of this transformation? Questions like these need to be addressed promptly," Dr Chadha said.
