The latest research in how children develop through participation in social and cultural contexts -- sociocultural theory -- will be one of the key focuses of a major international conference conducted by Monash University.
Ms Jill Robbins -- senior lecturer in the Faculty of Education -- is one of the convenors of the 15th annual Australian Research in Early Childhood Education Conference being held at Monash University's Peninsula campus from January 23 to 25.
"The Centre for Childhood Studies here at Peninsula is being recognised as a leader within Australasia of sociocultural research with young children," Ms Robbins said.
"There will be a sharing of the work at the conference that is being done by people here and in New Zealand, as well as other international sites.
"Another significant aspect of the conference will be the increasing amount of papers on practitioner research or teacher researchers - with a number of Monash staff taking a leadership role in this."
Other themes will include curriculum development in various national and international settings, and issues of quality in preschools and child-care settings.
The conference will encompass and promote an international perspective on sociocultural theory with participants from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
