Monash University has been named among the top 40 universities in the world, in The Times Higher Education Supplement's world rankings.
Monash was listed as number 38, ahead of the University of New South Wales and the University of Queensland, and behind the University of Sydney , the University of Melbourne and the Australian National University.
The Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, Professor Richard Larkins, welcomed the result.
"As the ranking system used by the Times Higher Education Supplement matures, it is very pleasing that once more Monash University is ranked in the top 40 universities in the world.
"Given that Monash University is only 45 years old, this is a remarkable achievement, and a tribute to all its past and present staff and students," Professor Larkins said.
Of the 200 universities ranked annually by the supplement, Harvard University in the US retained its position as world number one, with Cambridge University and Oxford University of the UK in second and third places respectively.
The rankings incorporate the views of 3,703 academics and 736 recruiters worldwide according to key themes of research quality, graduate employability, internationalisation and teaching quality.
