Australian singing diva Kate Ceberano headlines a one-off jazz concert at the Robert Blackwood Concert Hall at Monash's Clayton campus on Wednesday 11 October
|
The celebrated vocalist will backed by the Stage Band, a 25-piece vocal group, and an ensemble featuring renowned musicians - Stephen Magnusson on guitar and Rob Burke on saxophone - and students from the Monash School of Music-Conservatorium's Jazz and Popular Studies program. The concert will also feature the school's World Music Orchestra and student ensembles.
Jazz and Popular Music program coordinator Mr Rob Burke said the chance to hear Kate sing with a big band was not one to be missed.
"Kate is a brilliant singer whose stagecraft is fantastic," Mr Burke said. "What separates her from other singers is that she is an innovator. She believes in everything she sings, loves every note and she makes every note something special."
The 90-minute concert will feature contemporary jazz works, as well as original compositions (Kate Ceberano, Rob Burke, Douglas de Vries). Among the contemporary works to be performed by Ms Ceberano are This Woman's Work by Kate Bush and If you want me to stay by Sly and the Family Stone.
The Jazz and Popular Studies program at Monash University's School of Music-Conservatorium has been running for only four years, but in that time has developed rapidly. There are now 105 students enrolled in the program, which has become an integral part of the music program at Monash.
