Professor Edwards, an Australian, has almost 30 years experience in business education and has developed several programs on international business and international trade.
He has come to Monash University's Malaysian campus from the university's Peninsula campus, where, as head of the Faculty of Business and Economics, he was instrumental in its growth and development at that campus.
Professor Edwards said he was looking forward to contributing to the development of the Business School at Monash Malaysia. "The Monash Vision 2025 encapsulates an excellent 20 year strategic plan to be one of the best universities in the world by 2025, with a strong focus on quality teaching, research and internationalization," Professor Edwards said.
"Since my expertise is in strategic management in multinational organizations, I feel Monash Malaysia offers an excellent opportunity to put my expertise into practice. I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to take on the position as the Head of the School of Business as my vision is to make it the top business school in the region."
In his new role, Professor Edwards plans to continue building on the strength of the School's existing undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as expand its research portfolio. He also plans for the School to be actively engaged with the community through research and industry collaborations.
"For the second half of 2006, I am pleased that the School of Business is organizing two international conferences, the International Islamic Banking Conference and the Global SME Entrepreneurship Conference" he added. "This will establish a strong foundation with major companies for future research collaborations."
Professor Edwards holds Bachelors and Masters degrees and a PhD from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He completed his doctorate in management issues in multinational corporations and has published extensively in this area.
He has authored three books including Asean Business Trade and Development and refereed 55 publications.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Malaysia campus Professor Merilyn Liddell said she was delighted to welcome Professor Edwards to the Malaysia campus.
"Professor Edwards brings enormous experience and capacity as an academic head," Professor Liddell said. "I am very confident that the school will progress in stature under his leadership."
