Name: Di Ferwerda
Org. unit: Office of the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)
Title: Personal Assistant
How long have you been with Monash University?
Almost 10 years.
Prior to working at Monash, where were you located and what was your role?
I worked for Guests Furniture in Oakleigh. I started as personal assistant before moving on to roles as sales manager, advertising coordinator, and customer service manager.
What challenges are ahead in your current role?
As a result of Professor Cornish's promotion to Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and her continuing role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) I would like to undertake research into creating the eighth day, thus enabling me to schedule even more meetings!
What is it about your job that holds your interest or is particularly satisfying?
I am very privileged to work in an environment where I get to meet the true "superstars" of the world, people who are very passionate in their particular fields of research, and those who have gained world recognition for their years of unwavering commitment. And of course, I work for the most amazing woman.
What is your favourite place in the world and why?
Victoria. I am an "army brat" and as a result spent my early years travelling the world. Victoria just has it all and Melbourne is most definitely the best city in the world.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
My father taught me from a very early age "that two wrongs do not make a right" - so armed with this advice I have tried to apply it in the most challenging times in my life.
What is something about yourself that most of your colleagues wouldn't know?
I'm a closet spoon collector.
