How long have you been with Monash University?

More than 20 years as a working academic (on and off) - I had a stint teaching at the University of Tokyo.

Prior to working at Monash, where were you located and what was your role?

Studied, travelled, and drove taxies, often all at once.

What challenges are ahead in your current role?

Teaching-wise, developing new subject materials and fields. Research, finding the time and energy to bring ideas to fruition. The latter does not get any easier.

What is it about your job that holds your interest or is particularly satisfying?

Getting things finished.

What is your favourite place in the world and why?

The counter bar in a seething, smoky restaurant in Shibuya (Tokyo).

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

Never look into the sun. (The best tip I ever received on the racetrack.)

What is something about yourself that most of your colleagues wouldn't know?

I walked the catwalk in the Myer Mural Hall as a child mannequin. It was a little while ago now.
