Name: Nathan Hollier
Org. Unit: Monash University Library
Title: Manager, Monash University ePress
Dept: Monash University e-Press
How long have you been with Monash University?
About two weeks but I was a student here from 1992 to 1999.
Prior to working at Monash, where were you located and what was your role?
Most recently I was working at Victoria University as a lecturer in literary studies.
What challenges are ahead in your current role?
Many, but a key one is to build awareness and acceptance of electronic and print-on-demand models of publishing.
What is it about your job that holds your interest or is particularly satisfying?
Early days, let's face it but I'm excited by the chance to publish new, important scholarly series. We are planning new series in the humanities, social sciences, biological/biomedical sciences, and the applied sciences.
What is your favourite place in the world and why?
Mumbai - the food is fantastic. You think Indian food here is cheap?
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Don't be afraid to fail. (Thank you, Tubby Taylor.)
What is something about yourself that most of your colleagues wouldn't know?
Thanks to Google I think they know everything. Perhaps not, however, that in another life – one in which my singing voice was much less painful to listen to – I was Roy Orbison.
