Open Day a big hit at Monash Victorian campuses

8 August 2007

Student ambassadors were just some of the people who helped out during the recent Open Day weekend at Monash University's six Victorian campuses.

More than 39,000 people visited Monash University's six Victorian campuses over the Open Day weekend (August 4 -- 5). With more than 70,000 website hits, a fifty percent increase on previous years and hundreds requesting programs via the website to be posted to them prior to the event to plan their day.

Visitors to Gippsland campus enjoyed traditional indigenous dance hosted by the Arts Faculty, the Chemical Magic Show and Professional Networking with the Engineering Faculty.

Hundreds of people took advantage of the free Monash Metro Bus Service to all campuses on Sunday and were greeted and guided around campuses by student ambassadors.

One of the highlights of Open Day was Engineering's Departmental Tour which visited the High Voltage Lab, Wind Tunnel and Formula SAE workshop.

Caulfield campus was abuzz with music and roving performers adding to the electric atmosphere.

Parkville's mock pharmacy and how drugs work sessions proved popular, and Berwick and Peninsula campuses provided beautifully presented environments and warm greeting to visitors.

Campus Co-ordinators, Karen Petersen, Christel Kent, Pamela Peters, Loretta Hambly, Jessica Dobbie, Julie Baxter and Britta Morrison need to be congratulated for attending to the logistics of the event with a "can do" attitude, hard work and enthusiasm.

Faculty marketing managers came to the fore providing staff with tools that allowed for professional presentation and warm welcome to visitors.

"It was a great team effort by staff and students showcasing our campuses," Chair of the Open Day Committee Professor Rob Willis said.

"The pride of being part of the Monash community was clearly apparent in all involved."
