Senior executives from the China banking sector participated in a study tour to Melbourne recently conducted by the Department of Accounting and Finance at Monash University and the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).
The study tour was sponsored by the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD) with the aim of further raising the profile of Monash University, Melbourne and the State of Victoria, in the banking sector in China.
Specifically DIIRD, Monash and FINSIA wanted to showcase the financial services education and training capabilities available in Victoria.
The program delivered a range of sample lectures by Monash academics and Finsia industry practitioners on aspects of the Australian banking sector. In addition meetings were held with three of Australia's four major banks, the Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank and the ANZ Bank where aspects of their banking operations were showcased.
FINSIA and the Department of Accounting and Finance cooperation on the study tour is one of the initiatives that has developed from the MOU that was signed between the two parties in 2006.
Additionally the Faculty of Business and Economics enlisted the assistance of one of the University's key partners in China, Shanghai Jao Tong University, to target and recruit suitable delegates from the banking sector in China to attend the program.
The Assistant Dean of Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jao Tong University, Associate Professor Ma accompanied the delegates to Melbourne.
