Scholarships to Monash women

Monash students have received seven out of 10 annual scholarships from the Australian Federation of University Women. The federation, founded in 1922, comprises eight state and territory organisations that aim to advance women through initiatives in education, friendship and peace.
Ms Papreen Nahar of the Arts faculty received the $1000 Jean Grey Bursary for a postgraduate research student, for her study of infertility among women in Bangladesh.
Ms Deborah Kuyper of the Arts faculty received the $2000 AFUW-Victoria Scholarship for a coursework masters student, for her research work into publishing and editing.
Ms Sarah-Jane Mead of the Arts faculty received the $1000 Jenny Wright Bursary for a coursework Masters student for her work in Japanese interpreting and translation.
Ms Gerardine Barry of the IT faculty received the $1000 Beryl Green Bursary for a coursework Masters student for her computer security and multimedia studies research.
Ms Maria Gantala of the Art and Design faculty received the $2000 E. D. Daniel Scholarship for an undergraduate student entering honours year for her work developing plans for creative spaces under freeway underpasses.
Ms Queenie Wing Man Chan of the IT faculty received the $2000 Mary Brook Bursary for an undergraduate student entering honours year for her research into investment planning.
And Ms Ruth McCallum-Howell of the Fine Arts department in the Art and Design faculty received the $1000 Trudy Kentish Bursary for an undergraduate student entering honours year for her innovative art work using modern materials including plastics.
