Lecturer wins national pharmacy award

6 October 2004

Senior lecturer and PhD student Mr Michael Dooley at the Victorian College of Pharmacy has been named the winner of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia 2004 Clinical Pharmacy Award.

Outstanding contribution: Mr Michael Dooley.

The annual peer-decided award is given to an individual pharmacist and recognises Mr Dooley's outstanding contribution to the field of clinical pharmacy practice, as well as his contribution to the body of knowledge of therapeutics through research and clinical teaching.

Mr Dooley, who is also director of pharmacy at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, will receive the award later this month at the fourth biennial Society of Hospital Pharmacists (SHPA) clinical conference in Sydney, where he is to deliver an award oration and present two seminars.

In one session at the three-day conference, he will explore the topic of 'Future directions in clinical pharmacy' and then present on the SHPA clinical pharmacy intervention study and launch the recently ratified SHPA standards of practice for clinical pharmacy.
