Overweight/obese and want to lose weight?

Published: 4 November 2009

A combined research team from the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and Monash University Department of General Practice (Obesity Research Unit) seek men and women to trial a new oral device designed to alter eating behaviour and assist with weight loss. The small custom-made device is worn whilst eating and sits against the roof of the mouth, taking up space to reduce bite-size and encourage a slower rate of eating.

A comprehensive diet and lifestyle program will also be provided throughout the study by a physician and nutritionist.

To be eligible, you must be:

  • Aged 18-50 years
  • BMI 27-33: Women (if average height) approx 75 to 90kg / men (if average height) approx 86 to 110kg
  • In good dental health (no dentures/retainers/dental appliances)
  • Able to attend regular appointments at the Alfred Hospital during business hours for approximately six months
