Participants sought for Early Life Trauma Research

Published: 1 July 2009

The Alfred Psychiatry Research Center and the Department of Psychology, Monash University are conducting a study on the relationship between traumatic experiences in childhood and later episodes of depression.

At this stage we are particularly seeking adults who have no history of depression, but who have had one or more traumatic experiences in childhood (before the age of 18 years).

Traumatic experiences might include:

  • Illness or accident affecting one's self or family
  • Violence towards one's self or one's family
  • Witnessing violence
  • Natural disasters
  • Physical or sexual abuse.

Participation in this research project involves completing a questionnaire on experiences of childhood trauma, some memory tests and a session of MRI scanning to measure brain volume.

If you are interested in participating or would like more information on this research please contact us.
