Estrogen Treatment and Psychosis in Women

Published: 1 July 2009

Women who experience symptoms of psychosis or have been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder are invited to take part in a trial involving the use of estrogen patches as an addition to standard antipsychotic therapy.

Previous research by the Chief Investigator Professor Jayashri Kulkarni has shown that estrogen therapy reduces symptoms of psychosis when used in conjunction with antipsychotic medication.

This project is being held at The Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre, Southern Health at Dandenong Hospital and at Barwon Health. Full ethics approval has been obtained from all sites.
