Preschool children to participate in sleep research study
Published: 17 June 2009
Snoring in adults has significant health implications for both blood pressure and daytime performance. Snoring is very common in children, but as yet it is not known if children have similar health consequences to adults. The Ritchie Centre for Baby Health Research is investigating the effects of snoring in young children on blood pressure, behaviour and learning. We are looking for healthy preschool-aged children (3-5 years old) who do not snore to participate as controls in our research. Participation involves an overnight sleep study at the Melbourne Children's Sleep Unit, Monash Medical Centre. Parents also sleep-over with their child. Following the sleep study there is an at-home developmental assessment (which takes about 1.5 hours) which is lots of fun for the kids. We will cover the costs of your parking at the hospital overnight.
