Early Life Trauma and Depression Study

Published: 20 May 2009

The Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre and the Department of Psychology, Monash University are conducting a study on the relationship between traumatic experiences in childhood and later episodes of depression.

At this stage we are particularly seeking adults who have no history of depression, but who have had one or more traumatic experiences in childhood (before the age of 18 years).

Traumatic experiences might include:

  • Illness or accident affecting one's self or family
  • Violence towards one's self or one's family
  • Witnessing violence
  • Natural disasters
  • Physical or sexual abuse

Participation in this research project involves doing a questionnaire on experiences of childhood trauma, some memory tests and a session of MRI scanning to measure brain volume.

If you are interested in participating or would like more information please contact us.

Date: Monday 18 May to Monday 1 June, 2009
