Study on perceptual illusions using mirrors and rubber limbsPublished: 6 May 2009 This study will explore the perceived "body space" of the phantom limb in upper limb amputees, and how this interacts with other body parts, objects in personal space, and the prosthesis. We require intact, healthy adults and lower limb amputees to participate in this study to understand how the internal representation (that is, representations in the brain) of a phantom limb differs from that of intact upper limbs in healthy adults. Participation will involve taking part in a series of experimental procedures that will include some simple movement tasks, and various types of stimulation of your arms and a realistic looking rubber limb with various types of stimuli. The study is being done at Monash University (Clayton campus) and takes between 40 minutes and 1.5 hours to complete-including rest periods. We will provide you with refreshments throughout the testing. Testing can also be done after hours. For further information contact: |
