The Wallenberg Oration 2009 - Caulfield campus

Published: 29 April 2009

The inaugural Wallenberg Oration "The Holocaust and Genocide: Remembering the Twentieth Century" is being presented by Professor Omer Bartov, John P Birkelund Distinguished Professor of European History at Brown University who is considered one of the world's leading authorities on genocide.

The oration will explore important themes in Holocaust and genocide scholarship. It is named in memory of Raoul Wallenberg who risked his life to save Jews during the Holocaust.

Professor Bartov will argue that the very recognition of the Holocaust's centrality to the 20th Century has also fuelled attempts to marginalise it, either by denying its importance or by using it as a tool for contemporary political purposes.
