A water sensitive future for Melbourne - ClaytonPublished: 18 March 2009 An emerging challenge for urban communities is to design for resilience against the impact of climate change whilst accommodating a growing population. Of particular importance is the sustainable management of water resources and protection of water environments. Melbourne has an international reputation in water sensitive urban design and aquatic ecosystem protection. With works on the desalination plant and pipeline underway, the development of enabling policies, and governance and servicing models for a more diverse water supply strategy is required. Urban stormwater is a readily available, underutilised and potentially cost effective resource. The management of urban stormwater brings multiple benefits. There are opportunities for developing integrated urban design solutions employing stormwater as an important water supply source and as a solution to several problems challenging our city. Join Tony Wong for an enlightening lecture on the potential for a water sensitive future for Melbourne. Time: 6-7 pm For further information contact: |
