Mark Peel's Inaugural Professorial Lecture -- Clayton

Published: 5 November2008

Title: Precarious Superiority: Some Explorations in Class, Gender and Social History.

Drawing examples from both teaching and writing, this lecture reflects Professor Peel’s interest in history from and about ‘the margins’. With discussions of role-playing and historical re-enactment, a staged encounter from the 1930s, and a sketch for a new project on male servants and dependency in nineteenth and twentieth century Britain and America, Professor Peel examines one of social history’s most enduring and significant challenges: rendering precarious the superiorities of the present.

All are welcome to attend and light refreshments will be served following the lecture.
