New initiatives at Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service

Published: 24 September 2008

Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service (MOLS) is a community legal centre, located on Monash University's Clayton campus. MOLS has recently set up two new exciting volunteer programs.

The first is a Wednesday Night 'advice only' service, where law students will gain valuable practical skills, through interviewing clients, conducting legal research and liaising with a clinical supervisor/practitioner. This program is unique in the opportunity it affords students with no prior experience, providing them with both hands-on training and the opportunity to contribute to their local community.

The second is the Prison Legal Education Assistance Project (PLEA). This innovative project, which has recently been awarded funding by the Victoria Law Foundation, will provide monthly court readiness education and library assistance to inmates at the Metropolitan Remand Centre in Deer Park.

For more information about either of these programs contact Guillaume Bailin at guillaume.bailin@law.monash.edu.au.
