Steptember 10,000 Challenge

Published: 10 September 2008

This year's 10,000 Steps Challenge, commencing on Monday 15 September, will see participants tread a path visiting all Monash campuses on a virtual walk. Participants will use a pedometer to measure each step they take from morning to night, aiming to clock up at least 10,000 steps each day to achieve their team goal.

The challenge aims to assist in building a community spirit and extends itself into the wider community through the participation of family members and friends. With increased participation levels each year the challenge demonstrates the willingness of Monash staff to get fitter, get healthier and be part of the Monash community.

Official counting on your pedometer doesn't start until 15th September, but why not have a go early and see how you measure up? The following pedometer indices have been developed to provide a guideline on how many steps are enough:

less than 5000 -- sedentary
5000-7499 -- low active
7500-9999 -- somewhat active
more than 10000 -- active
more than 12500 -- highly active

To register for the challenge visit the Occupational Health and Safety website.
