Regions in a time of globalisation and climate change

Call for papers

Professor John Tomaney (Director, Institute for Regional Studies) and Professor Margaret Somerville (Research Director) invite academics and researchers from all disciplines at Monash University to participate in a one day symposium, Regions in a time of globalisation and climate change, on Friday 12 December, 2008.

Abstracts are invited for short presentations of leading edge research (12-15 minutes) that address the symposium focus. Possible symposium themes, include:

  • identity and place
  • water, food, energy
  • public health and community well-being
  • creative arts and community development.

A small number of abstracts will be selected and papers will be grouped thematically.

The Symposium aims to facilitate interdisciplinary conversations and to foster innovative thinking and new collaborations about regions and contemporary issues.

The art exhibition, Bubbles on the Surface 111, will also be launched in the evening with artist’s floor talks about Indigenous perspectives on water in the Murray-Darling Basin.
