Traditional and Alternative MedicinePublished: 14 May 2008 Presenters: Professor Seung-Hoon Choi, Regional Adviser in Traditional Medicine, World Health Organisation (WHO), Western Pacific Regional Office; Professor Charlie Xue, Director, WHO Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine, RMIT; Professor Paul Komesaroff, Director, Centre for Ethics in Medicine and Society, Monash University. The seminar will discuss current progress towards the modernisation of traditional medicine and why people use it. Which herbs are used and for what purposes will be discussed as well as the risks and perceived benefits of their use. Concurrent use of herbs and conventional medicines is also looked at.
