Music and emotion study

Published: 14 May 2008

Music can have a powerful effect on our emotions and how we see things in the world. To examine this phenomenon, the Monash Music Psychology team is currently looking for participants to rate their emotional responses to films with varying types of music playing in the background.

To be eligible to participate, you must:

  • be aged between 17 and 50 years
  • not be on anti-hypertensive or mood stabilising medication
  • be right-handed
  • not participated in the PSY2031 or BNS3041 music/film practicals
  • have no uncorrected visual or hearing impairment
  • have not consumed any stimulants (e.g. caffeine) in the four hours before the study.

The study will take place at the Monash Sleep Lab located at the Caulfield campus. You will be required to attend two one-hour sessions, one week apart.

If you are interested in participating, please phone Sherilene Carr on + 61 418 993 102 or email Sherilene.Carr@med.monash.edu.au.
