The 17th Biennial Conference of the Asian Studies Association of Australia

Date: Tuesday to Thursday, 1 to 3 July 2008

Venue: The Sebel Albert Park Hotel, Melbourne, Australia

ASAA and Monash Asia Institute invite you to the largest gathering of expertise on Asia in the southern hemisphere. The conference will:

  • provide a forum for 400 scholars and observers to evaluate trends in Asia's many regions and cultures
  • link these trends to global scenarios
  • offer multi-disciplinary, cross-country, inter-regional and inter-cultural panels
  • provide special panels and a plenary session for teachers
  • host a postgraduate workshop on Monday, 30 June 2008
  • host international guests such as Dai Qing on China's water problems and Aitzaz Ahsan on the defence of Pakistan's civil society.

We invite you to attend as a conference speaker or observer.

Abstracts and papers are now invited. All postgraduate students who register for the ASAA conference will be able to attend for free a Postgraduate Workshop on Monday 30 June 2008.
