Clash of the Titans - Clayton campus
Published: 23 April 2008
1 - 2 pm, Tuesday 29 April, 2008 in Science Lecture Theatre S4.
Created in 2006 by Monash Science/Education student David Innes, Clash of the Titans is a knockout public speaking competition held within the Science Faculty.
Four lecturers from different disciplines are asked to compete to answer the most unanswerable and silly questions in front of a large audience, linking nonsensical ideas with scientific concepts.
Previous topics have ranged from "Pluto is not a planet, but a large oversized novelty cupcake that was launched into space", "Using spectroscopic methods, determine the difference between a politician and a tub of marmalade" and "Plate techtonics are part of a conspiracy theory." The competition has three parts: prepared, impromptu and a final playoff. Each one is marked by three post-graduate judges and a competitor is voted off. The final player remaining is asked to return in the next show. The Clash is run once a semester.
This semester's competitors are: Dr Bob Wong (Biology), Dr Chris Thompson> (Chemistry), Dr Michael Brown (Physics) and Dr Heather Wright (Geology). The show will be hosted by Third Year Science student Benjamin Timms, who has succeeded David Innes in organising and running the show.
The show is completely free and runs for an hour at 1 pm, 29 April. Come along and see for yourself! |
